WyldRyde IRC Network Server Link

If you're interested in linking a server to WyldRyde, the first thing you should do is familiarize yourself with the WyldRyde IRC Network Rules and our FAQs to make sure you understand our policies and agree with them.

We appreciate your interest in providing a server but at this time we need financial support more than we need additional servers.

Note: We require our Server Owners to be known WyldRyde users.
This means we do not link to servers provided by completely unknown people! Please spend time with other Admins and IRCOps in #help. We also highly recommend you join other popular channels such as #chris and #besttechie.

At this time we will only accept servers located in:
  • State of Washington or California
  • Quebec, Canada
  • Massachusetts
  • Virginia, Washington DC, or Maryland
  • Belgium, France, or Netherlands
  • Italy, or Switzerland
  • Israel
  • Japan or Eastern Australia

Server Hardware and Software Requirements:

All WyldRyde Servers must meet certain minimum hardware standards in order to efficiently operate on the WyldRyde IRC Network. The bare minimum standards are as follows:

  • Hardware:
    • Pentium Pro or higher at 600+mhz
    • 256MB RAM or higher (we require 8MB free for the server and tools, as well as use of 8 processes)
    • 90MB free hard drive space
    • 100mbit full duplex NIC at minimum.
    • DS1 (1.5mbit) minimum upstream bandwidth, DS3 (44.7mbit) or higher recommended.
    • Must have an average of at least 1 month of uninterrupted uptime.
    • Must have a dedicated static IP address for the IRC Server.

  • Operating System:
    • Linux (2.4.*, 2.6.*)
    • FreeBSD (6.2, 7.*)
    • NetBSD (2.*, 3.*)
    • OpenBSD (3.9, 4.0, 4.1)
    • Solaris (9, 10)
    • Other operating systems may be allowed on a case by case basis, however Windows 16 bit or 16/32 hybrids (including 3.1, 95, 98, and ME) will not be accepted, EVER.
    • NT kernels will only be accepted with serious userland changes applied (and not just a new theme) due to the unreliability of the base userland.
    * NOTE: you are required to keep up with all security updates.

  • Software:
    • Required:
      • Fully updated OpenSSL libraries.
      • Fully updated OpenSSH with ssh, sftp, and scp support. Pub-key auth must be turned on, no exceptions!
      • GNU binutils 2.*
      • GCC 3 or GCC 4
      • GNU nano 1.2.*
      • GNU make or BSD make
      • Updated zlib
      • Bourne-compatible shell in /bin/sh (bash, ash, or ksh is sufficient)
      • tar
      • bzip2
      • matching header files for the dynamic link libraries provided
    • Recommended:
      • GNU nano 1.2.*
      • Subversion 1.1.4 or higher

  • Additional Requirements:
    1. The server should be on a machine dedicated to serve as an IRC and web server. This means that it should not be running anything other than essential OS processes needed by the IRC server, needed to secure the machine, or eggdrops. Absolutely no public or private warez FTPs, warbots, botnets, or any illegal material or use of any kind! Shared web host accounts are not suitable.
    2. Prior Authorization from WyldRyde's Root Admins (listed on the home page) is required to use, redistribute, or modify the WyldRyde Distro. Modules not included within the WyldRyde Distro may not be installed without authorization.
General WyldRyde Linking Policies:
  1. WyldRyde does not require linking servers to bring a minimum amount of users or staff.
  2. WyldRyde Root and Global Admins shall hold an O:Line on the server at all times.
  3. WyldRyde's Root Admins must be given ssh and ftp access to perform maintenance and updates to the IRCd.
  4. WyldRyde is a centrally administered network. All binaries and config files are pushed out from a central location, and verified periodically. Admins must not recompile or reinstall the server or the machine will be delinked.
  5. Servers must use the WyldRyde name and *.wyldryde.org URL. (We will not merge with other networks and switch to their name.)
  6. Server Admins must be able to keep their server and config files up-to-date, upgraded, and/or respond to any needs regarding their server within 48 hours, or have a representative available with access to do the same within said period.
  7. The responsibility for any shell fees or costs associated with running a server lies solely on the server's owner. All servers with a bandwidth restriction on their shell must have at least 10GB/mo allowable bandwidth with the potential for more usage as the network's needs require. Please don't apply for link if you can't afford increased costs in the future if the network grows or if traffic should exceed this minimum.
  8. The responsibility for security of the shell and the server itself is the responsibility of its owner. Any security breaches either accidental or intentional will result in immediate delink from the network or suspension of access to the network, depending on severity. IRC servers can be targets of DDoS attacks. If you are unprepared to accept that your server may get attacked please reconsider submitting an application.
  9. New servers will go through a test period of no less than 30 days on the network, during this period the IRCOps and Admins of the server will be watched carefully and reviewed by the WyldRyde's Senior Staff. If the Staff or Server does not meet our requirements and expectations it will be delinked. Once delinked the server must stop using the WyldRyde name, WyldRyde Distro, and configs and shall destroy our Distro and Configs.
Staff and Staffing Policies:
  1. There is currently a moratorium on new staff members so we are not accepting new Admins or IRCOps at this time. The Server Owner will NOT be a Server Admin, IRCOp, or hold any type of oline! Several policies below have been stricken to reflect this temporary policy change.
  2. Our IRCd Server Admins are required to be an existing WyldRyde Services Admin or WyldRyde Services Oper. The Server Owner can opt to be an IRCOp on their server, or opt to recommend to the IRCd Server Admin a user on the network to be one of the maximum 2 IRCOps on the server. The Server Admin will mentor the Server Owner and/or new IRCOps about the relatively unorthodox way WyldRyde administers it's network, and should be consulted on all aspects of server operation. Locally administered servers will no longer be allowed. No exceptions!
  3. The IRCd Server Admin (admin with config file/machine access) is responsible for choosing up to two people they trust and know meet our minimum requirements to be an IRCOp and that have a knowledge of the duties of an IRCOp. However, the IRCd Server Admin must ask the WyldRyde Senior Global Network Admins before he or she adds any staff to his/her server. Furthermore, WyldRyde Senior Global Network Admins have the right to ask any server staffer be removed at their discretion. If the staffer's lines are not removed in a reasonable time period the server will be delinked.
  4. Servers may only have friendly, mature, helpful, and non-abusive staff members that always act in a professional manner. If you or anyone on your staff is always grumpy or looking to pick on n00bs or other users DO NOT APPLY!
  5. Kills and Bans (channel bans, akills, shuns, glines, gzlines, and sqlines) should only be used in extreme situations:
    1. Users should have the WyldRyde IRC Network Rules they are violating explained to them and given several warnings before they are Killed or Banned, except in cases of trojan, spam, or flood bots.
    2. All Kills and Bans should have an appropriate reason describing why the user was Killed or Banned.
    3. Bans must include a link to the Ban Appeal page.
    4. If you think another staffer may message you to ask why you Killed or Banned a user, think of a better reason to include. (A good rule of thumb is, when in doubt...don't Kill or Ban!)
  6. All staff members must auto-join (and remain in) #help and #bridge (the Network Staff Channel) whenever connected to WyldRyde.
  7. When staffers are at their computer, they are expected to be helpful and politely respond to questions (they know answers to) and positively help deal with any concerns a user might have.
  8. All staff members should be active at least 14 hours a week. It is highly suggested that all staff members have a broadband internet connection and should try to remain connected to the network 24/7 so they can review what has been said in the Network Staff Channel during their absence.
  9. We suggest that all staffers only use one or two nicks. In an ideal world staffers would never change their nick, furthermore, its preferred they're not changed when set away.
  10. Users should be able to easily identify staffers as Staff; therefore all Staffers must use the wyldryde.org vhost and may not use other vhosts on their nicks.

If you can meet our requirements please connect to our network and join #help to speak with a WyldRyde Root or Global Admin.
