Rooms seem to be update some time ago and as far as i can see it works really great? I think i can shutdown mibbit now too.

I'm doing fine with mibbit for now.
I don't get on IRC that much.

with rooms depending on what version of it you have it is very basic. Main menu > settings > connections. Then the "+" on the bottom left side you will need to scroll down to the "User Settings" where it says "nickname" "password"... Put your nickserv info in there.
