I dont wish to tread on anyone's toes, or anything, im just raising some concerns i have as a user in #chris. First of all the OS/Console/Whatever wars. Are they against the rules? Could it be considered that they become against rules if they're not? I ask this because, today the topic was "Fanboys R Us" at some time, ( i'm in a different time zone and cannot actually remember) and for the time that i was in there all i could see was "Linux rulz", "VistaSux" and the like. I can only think that the topic was influencing the users. It makes it incredibly hard to interact with people i enjoy talking to and can stop me helping others. It go so bad, i had no choice but to disconnect. I have found that it can be specific users, sometimes with nicks that suggest OS preference that start these wars, or at least continue them. One user i found kept pasting things in, that undermined alternatives to Microsoft Office, and Windows. Another thing, bot commands (e.g. "!time" and "what is chair") get frequently flooded by users, cycling through everything they can think of in their minds. That also makes chatting and interacting with the community at times hard. Im sorry of you have seen me get angry at times in the chat, its just the community feeling in #chris is so strong at times. I dont feel that i, and anyone else should loose out because people are too busy bashing systems or flooding bots. I know you may not be able to completely deal with these problems, and i understand that, but there must be something that can be done to at least help these problems. I am somplyasking forthese problems to be recognized and possibly addressed. I dont want to keep having to disconnect because of people who cant contribute in a meaningful way.

well, i cant really do anything, but i'll try to address most/all of your issues:
- yes, console wars are not tolerated in #chris, never were, never will.
- ops/hops in #chris dont make the what is commands and the !time commands available to voiced users only because those commands are there for the newcomers in #chris. people who abuse the bots get kicked, i've seen it before.

The "wars" are an inevitable part of #chris. It's best to keep to your conversation and try to ignore the "wars". I know it's hard sometimes. We have had discussions on flood protection and permissions for Pixie. And at this point we have chosen not to. If you feel that the commands are out of control, you can /ignore Pixie. For the most part, that's what I do.

Meh, I rarely get into those kinds of conversations without real facts to support my claims. Naturally, I never just say "Vista sucks!!!!" or "lul mac ownz". I always admit that I use both Linux and Windows, and give factual viewpoints and comparisons about both. I give my recommendations based on my experience with the operating systems.
This being said, these kind of "wars" seem to come up many times per day. I don't feel that people should just say why they support something, and not back it up. Seems like spam to me.
As for Pixie, it seldom bothers me >.>

Everyday it feels like someone brings up the console war. We would have to ban about half the room, since a lot of chatter get into the discussion. If it becomes solely a flame way, the room will become moderated. But throwing the question "What makes you say that?" usually keeps the conversation side of the 'debate' is you will going.
You have to point out that everyone has their own taste, style and needs. Different OS's and such meet them in their own way.

Please do not answer on behalf of the moderation team. You weren't even correct in the answers you gave. There never has been, nor will there be, a rule against console wars. Yes, we try to steer the topic away from them.. or at least encourage them to DISCUSS those things, instead of just fighting. But it's never been "not tolerated". Yes, people who abuse the bots get kicked. However, we DO have certain measures in place to avoid that, and make it less spammy. well, i cant really do anything, but i'll try to address most/all of your issues:
- yes, console wars are not tolerated in #chris, never were, never will.
- ops/hops in #chris dont make the what is commands and the !time commands available to voiced users only because those commands are there for the newcomers in #chris. people who abuse the bots get kicked, i've seen it before.
