WyldRyde Has Been Acquired By Microsoft

Microsoft Corp has announced today it has agreed to acquire WyldRyde IRC Network, a leading global Internet Relay Chat Network. WyldRyde users will be able to continue to enjoy the service at irc.wyldryde.org. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

With this acquisition Microsoft launches a bold strategy that aims to broaden the appeal of Internet Relay Chat to every day computer users.

Microsoft's investment in WyldRyde will allow the network to grow in ways that was never thought possible. Fifty-Four servers strategically located in the Republic of Bulgaria will allow users in every country obtain fast and secure connections to the network. All the servers will run Windows Vista Enterprise and the new Microsoft LiveIRCd Beta.

The Microsoft LiveIRCd is a radical improvement to traditional IRCds as it simplifies the IRC experience by using commands and an interface that users are familiar with from other Microsoft products like Vista User Account Control (UAC) and Live Search. The Microsoft LiveIRCd is also optimized for use with the Microsoft Comic Chat IRC Client.

In order to improve your IRC experience, as of April 15, WyldRyde will only accept connections from users running Windows Vista Ultimate (UAC must be enabled) and are also using Microsoft Comic Chat to connect to the servers.

"I'm thrilled with the acquisition of WyldRyde and the opportunity to offer this technology with Windows Live software and services," said Steve Mermelstein. "WyldRyde will help Microsoft customers chat with users all over the world. All heil our new Führer Steve Ballmer."

Founded in 1975, Microsoft (Nasdaq "MSFT") is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.

UPDATE:
  • Apr 02, 2008 02:10AM EDT (UTC-5): If you didn't figure it out on your own...this post was an April Fools prank and a parody of Microsoft acquisitions. WyldRyde has not been purchased by Microsoft. You don't need Vista or Comic Chat to connect to WyldRyde. In short, it's a joke! Get a sense of humor!

I smelled a fake on the date. I knew it was fake when I got to the part about Vista servers being good. Very subtle. :)
