What is a Botnet?

Have you heard the term Botnet and wondered what it means?

Botnets are made up of large amounts of computers that have been infected with a virus or Trojan and gives some control of the computer to a "botherder," "botmaster," or "botneter." This person can silently use the computer for illegal purposes such as hosting pornography, pirate music or movies, or sending spam.

Most zombie machines, or machines which have botnet viruses on them got infected from an email attachment or a download from a malicious web site.

Some botherder use IRC Networks to control their bots but that is becoming less common place as reputable networks do not permit the bots to connect to their network.

Does WyldRyde permit botnets?
No, we scan all new connections for known bots and watch for botnet like behavior. Whenever we come across a botnet we immediately ban the bots and their hearder from connecting to the network.
