How To Setup X Chat
XChat is a free IRC client for both Windows and Linux. You can download it and use it to connect to WyldRyde and chat in your favorite channels. This page will show you how to set up XChat to connect to WyldRyde...
Firstly, you must download XChat from XChat.org.
If you're a windows user, you can simply double click the exe file that you have just downloaded to install XChat. If you are a Linux user, you may need to compile XChat from source - if there is no package for your distribution.
Once you have XChat installed and running, you should be presented with a box like this...

Fill in the 5 boxes that I have boxed in red in the image above. The first three are your first, second and third choice of nickname; the fourth box is relatively unimportant and can just be anything; the final box can also be anything you like - we advise against using your real name for your own privacy.

Next, click the Add button. This is the one boxed in red on the image above. This will add a new network to the list on the left. You should be able to type a name for this. Replace the text already in the box with WyldRyde. Now, make sure the WyldRyde entry is selected and click the Edit button. This is the one I have boxed in green in the image above.

Once you click the edit button, you will be presented with a form like the one in the image above. In the box titled "Servers For WyldRyde" there should be one entry. This should say "newserver/6667". Click this entry and click the Edit button. This is the one I have boxed in red in the image above. Replace the "newserver/6667" with irc.wyldryde.org just as I have done in the image. I have boxed the part you should be looking at for this in green. If you would like XChat to automatically connect to WyldRyde when it starts up, you can tick the box that I have marked in blue. Click the close button at the bottom of this window. This is the one I have boxed in Yellow.

When you click close and return to the original form, click the Connect button. This is the one I have boxed in red in the image above.

Once you have done that, you should be presented with a window like the one above. This is your chat window which has just connected to WyldRyde. The box at the bottom, labeled User and boxed in red on my diagram is where you can type messages to other users and also commands to the network.

To view a list of all of the channels (chat rooms) on WyldRyde, you can type /list into the User box, just as is shown in the image above. Once you have typed this, hit the enter key on your keyboard. You should now see a list of all of the channels. The channels all begin with the # sign, for example, #help. The text you see to the right of the channel name is the topic of the channel.

When you see one that you like, you can join it. To do this, type /join #channel into the User box. Replace #channel with the name of the channel you would like to join. For example, if you would like to join #help, you would type /join #help and hit the enter key on your keyboard - just as is shown in the image above.

Once you have done this, the channel should pop up in your window. The list on the left is the list of channels you are currently in. You can join more than one channel using the method shown above and then switch between them by selecting them from this list. The list on the right is the list of other users currently in the channel. To send a message that everyone else in the channel can see, just type it into the User box and hit enter. For example, if you wanted to say "Hello", simply type Hello and hit the enter key on your keyboard.
It really is as simple as that.
