Rinbot Worm Takes Down Newsrooms and Corporate Networks


A new strain of the Rinbot worm is targeting Symantec's anti-virus clients on corporate networks. The worm reportedly infected most of the Windows computers at CNN and even spread to its parent company, Turner Broadcasting System's computers. All the Mac computers within the company were unaffected.

Rinbot opens a back door in affected networks and connects to an IRC server for command and control. The worm is mostly used to attack MS SQL servers.

Users are urge to update their Symantec products and install all updates available at update.microsoft.com.
