How do I make someone a Channel Moderator (Channel Op)?
Not all ops are equal. The founder/owner of a channel has more powers but when you give ops to another person, you are giving that person the ability to kick and ban other users! If you trust the wrong person, learn from your mistake and remove their ops. Be sure to read, How To Pick Channel Moderators (Ops).
There are three levels of operators, listed here from most powerful to least:
- SuperOp (SOP): The SOP list gives users all rights given by the AOP list, and adds those needed to use the Auto Kick and the BadWords lists, to send and read channel memos, and so on. See SOP on our ChanServ help page to learn the command to add one and for more info.
- AutoOP (AOP): The AOP list gives users the right to be auto-opped on your channel, to unban or invite themselves if needed, to have their greet message showed on join, and so on. See AOP on our ChanServ help page to learn the command to add one and for more info.
- HalfOP (HOP): Users on the HOP list are auto-halfopped on your channel. They have the ability to change the topic, kick and ban users, but not much else. This is the best starting position for new channel operators. See HOP on our ChanServ help page to learn the command to add one and for more info.
There is also an AutoVoice level, see VOP.
