Fyle/Anatoly Pleads Guilty

An update to our March 26th story; the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting, Richard C. Honour, aka Fyle, Anatoly, has pleaded guilty to one felony count of transmitting computer viruses.

Honour faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, officials said.

Honour attacked WyldRyde and at least 21 other Internet Relay Chat networks with a trojan bot that attempted to spread itself by Private Messaging users on the networks with a link to the trojan file. It also randomly harassed IRC users with unwanted Private Messages containing vulgar messages.

His bots inspired the WyldRyde Staff to write a custom bot to fight his and other trojan and spambots. The bot was placed in the larger channels on the network and automatically banned his bots and other malicious bots from the network. Now WyldRyde intercepts bots like this upon connection or immediately upon their first message being sent, thus preventing our users from even noticing the spam and trojan bot problem that still exists today.
