How do I type in Colored Text? Bold Text?
Depending on the IRC Client you use you probably have the ability to type in 16 different colors and use various formatting styles (reverse, bolds, and underlines.) First ensure that your channel is not using channel modes c or S as they will block or strip away colored text. Channel mode U strips away formatting.
Colored text:
Use Control + K (the Ctrl key on your keyboard + the letter K key, clicked on at the same time) PLUS a number (1 through 16.) Color key:
- 1 - Black
- 2 - Navy Blue
- 3 - Green
- 4 - Red
- 5 - Brown
- 6 - Purple
- 7 - Olive
- 8 - Yellow
- 9 - Lime Green
- 10 - Teal
- 11 - Aqua Light
- 12 - Royal Blue
- 13 - Hot Pink
- 14 - Dark Gray
- 15 - Light Gray
- 16 - White
Example: If you would like to type a word in royal blue (number 12), then click on Ctrl + K, then type 12, then type the message.
Tip: If you want to stop the next word from being colorized, then click on the Ctrl + 0, this halts anymore colors.
Background Colors:
Like with colored text you still use Ctrl +K but you use two numbers, separated by a comma. The 1st number is the text color, the 2nd number is the background color. Example: Ctrl + K8,4
Formatting:
- Ctrl + B - BOLD
- Ctrl + U - Underlined
- Ctrl + R - Reverse
- Ctrl + I - Italics
- Ctrl + O - Returns your text back to unformatted black text
