Australian Faces Up To 10 Years In Prison For IRC DDoS Attacks


A 22 year-old man from Victoria, Australia was arrested in Melbourne, Australia yesterday for allegedly performing DDoS attacks against IRC Networks. He was charged with using a telecommunications network with intention to commit a serious offence, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

The Belgian police inititally tipped the Australian police about the man. According to reports, ISPs in United States, Singapore and Austria were also allegedly targeted.

"Bots and bot networks continue to be of concern and are linked ... to a range of other malicious activity including identity theft and spam," said Mr Zuccato, from the Australian High Tech Crime Centre.
