Agencies Bust Pirate IRC Network

The North Carolina Secretary of State’s Office, the North Carolina Anti Counterfeiting Association and the Motion Picture Association all participated in an investigation into an IRC Network specializing in serving up thousands of copyrighted movies, songs, games and pornography.

On Tuesday they searched Harbison Electronics in Morganton, North Carolina and found an entire room filled with computer equipment they said was being used to get movies, music, and pornography illegally and also operate an IRC Network where this content was distributed to other pirates.

Other channels on the network were dedicated solely to allowing people to get stolen credit cards, social security numbers and other private information, and cell phone hacking codes.

"No matter what type of service you are using to obtain movies illegally, you will be found and investigated," said Chuck Hausman, an investigator for the Motion Picture Association of America.
