Bots: What should I do when I see a spam bot?

MOST IMPORTANTLY: NEVER CLICK ON ANY LINK THAT IS SPAMMED!!!
When you click on spammed links you:
1) Only encourage spammers to spam more.
2) You can possibly infect your computer with something nasty.
3) You tell spammers that this network is a good network to spam on.

When someone is spamming in a channel (and if you are an OP) you could kick and ban them but usually it isn't necessary to leave a spammers ban in place for more than 30 minutes. Typically they won't be back with the same nick, ident, IP, or ISP. So don't forget to remove the ban.

If you're not an OP theres not much you can do other than to warn others in the channel not to click on the link. If the spammer is persistent and doesn't leave your channel and there are no ops available to kick and ban it then you should nicely ask in #help if there are any IRCOps available and if they could join your channel to get rid of the spammer. IMPORTANT: Do not quote the spammer's message in #help. Our IRCOps will only take action when they see things first hand and they may mistake your pasting for spam and ban you!
