What should I do when flooders join my channel?
Channel Operators:
We recommend you try using the new Flood Protection we now offer.
During a flood:
If your an op and your channel is being flooded change the modes on your channel to +mNC (/mode #channel +mNC.) Do not set the channel +I or start kicking the bots.
Once you have changed the modes join #help and explain that your channel is being flooded. An IRCOp, if available, should join your channel to ban the bots from the server. This is why its imperative that you do not kick the bots.
If there appears to be no available IRCOps then you may ban and kick the bots and set the modes to your liking.
Regular Users:
Join #help and explain that the channel is being flooded. An IRCOp, if available, should join your channel to ban the bots from the server.
If you are experiencing connection problems because of the flood (usually this is for dialup users only) it may be useful to part the flooded channel or set /mode nick +d to so you're are "deaf" to all channel activity.
You can also put an emergency F9 'hot-key' to ignore everyone when floods occur. For mIRC, you can put this line in your aliases:
F9 /ignore *!*@*
This will remove the previous ignore command:
F10 /ignore -r *!*@*
Just remember to hit the F10 key when the flood is over.
