I was banned because I have an open proxy?

This FAQ topic explains the following type of ban:
You have been banned from WyldRyde (You're using an insecure proxy. Please refer to http://www.wyldryde.org/proxy.html)

Explanation of an Open Proxy and the Ban:

You are running some sort of Proxy, probably Wingate (or similar) or have been infected with some sort of Backdoor Trojan that has created an open proxy on your computer.

In either case the proxy is either misconfigured or has been purposely been left in an insecure state. In its current state it will allow anyone on the Internet, without any authentication, to use your connection as their own! Such Proxies are frequently abused by flooders, spammers, and morons that launch distributed denial of service attacks. This is why every client connecting to WyldRyde is scanned for an open Proxy, and G-Lined (Banned) when one is found. Please also be aware that keeping your computer in this state is a legal liability and could possibly even be criminal.

The G-Line will expire in about 24 hours. We will not remove it earlier so please don't attempt to appeal this type of ban. Once your Proxy is secured, you should be able to reconnect after a few days. If it isn't, you'll be banned again.

How To Fix The Most Common Open Proxies:

If you have not installed proxy software you must find and remove the malware that has created this open proxy. Keep trying different Virus/Trojan/Spyware Detection & Removal programs that we have provided a link to on our Software page until you succesfully discover and remove the trojan.

If you are running proxy software, reconfigure your Proxy so that it is secure (see below.)
I
Wingate:
See this page

Sygate:
According to Sybergen, updating to the latest version fixes the open Proxy

Netproxy:
Check this. Configure it so that it rejects all connections except the ones coming from your LAN

Winroute:
This by default has Webproxy enabled and configured incorrectly. Configure it properly or just disable the Webproxy.

As a general rule for Proxy-Implementations not listed here:
Configure the proxy so that it refuses to work for clients outside your LAN, or even better: Set it so that it only binds to your LAN-Interface. Alternatively you need only ensure that users cannot connect with an "anonymous" (or NULL) username/password (which is normally the default setting with proxies).
