Why are secret or private channels bad?
If your channel doesn't have a specific reason for being private you're best off leaving it public.
Due to the nature of a private channels they typically have more difficulty taking off. Having a steady stream of new users is an essential ingredient for a successful channel. Channels that do not have new users joining them, quickly begin to shrink as no one likes to hang around a quiet or boring channel with always the same people and the same conversations.
If you keep your channel private or secret your channel cannot be indexed by SearchIRC and other IRC Search Engines. In addition other users on WyldRyde will be unable to find your channel. Unlike other networks, WyldRyde users are friendly and are not a detraction.
The WyldRyde IRC Network has systems in place that are very aggressive and effective in eliminating all spammers and trojan bots from the network before they join channels. In the rare instance that one slips by, the spammer is rarely able to spam more than one channel as they're noticed by the staff and are immediately disconnected.
We encourage all new channels to try out leaving the channel public and if you feel that it's not right for your channel then you can always make the switch.
