How do I start my own chat/channel?
Creating and registering a channel is an easy and painless three step procedure. Once the channel is registered, you have full control over how to run and manage it.
- Commands below are printed in italics and should be entered into the chat screen where you type to chat.
- Every command always begin with a slash (e.g. /) and shouldn’t have any spaces in front of it.
- Please remember that ALL passwords are case sensitive. Example, STAR and star are not the same.
1 Before registering a channel, you must first register a nickname with NickServ. If you haven’t registered your nick type:
/msg nickserv register password email
(Replace password with a password you can remember and email with your email address. Once you are done registering your nick, you are all set to register a channel.)
2 To create a channel, think of a channel name you will like to use and type:
/join #channelname
(Example, if you wish to select the channel name #MyFirstChannel, you will type: /join #MyFirstChannel.) Note: Your channel name may only consist of English letters and may not include spaces. We discourage the use of punctuation or numbers as it’s not supported by some IRC clients.
3 Be sure you have Ops (@) besides your nickname then use the command:
/msg chanserv register #channelname passwordhere channeldescriptionhere
(In this example, we will register the channel #MyFirstChannel using oUet562 as the password and A Cool Chat Channel as its description. So, you will type: /msg chanserv register #MyFirstChannel oUet562 A Cool Chat Channel )
Once your channel has been successfully registered you will get a response message from ChanServ informing you it was successful and some important information you must read.
